My phone is eligible for upgrade in a couple days, so I've been looking into a replacement. The one that's really got my interest is the iPhone 3G. It's packed full of features, got cool applications and it's priced right. I've also looked at the AT&T Tilt, which is the replacement to the one I already have (Cingular 8525) and it's just a more refined version of the phone that I have. That's great, but it's still rather large, I don't like the button layout, and the tilt feature seems like it will be a problem a year or two down the line. So until last night the iPhone 3G was the obvious choice. Then I was watching Attack of the Show. It's pretty much and technology and entertainment show on G4TV. Well they had a second review of the iPhone 3G, I guess the first review it was assumed it would be great. This time they slammed it! Let me tell you these guys are Apple fans, seriously. Both of them own iPhones (first and second generation), Mac owners, Apple TV, etc. Their biggest complaints were the dropped calls, the lack of 3G coverage (that's AT&T's problem), the battery life, and the latest patch 2.0.2 was causing it to crash. At this point I'm like WTF! I had this thing in my hand, with a big cheesy grin, flicking and pinching away at the screen. This thing was the sh!t in the showroom. They did say that if you can't wait to get one don't go crazy loading applications, that will slow it down, causing it to crash. They also said wait and see if the next update solves the problems or until Apple releases a slightly updated model and go for that one. I hope Apple gets it running smooth, because in my opinion it's the best PDA phone on the market. The demo at the AT&T store was working with no problems and no hesitation. Of course that one was stock. I expected the 3G coverage to be perfect in there (obviously), so loading websites were superfast for a handheld wireless device. It's a good thing I didn't get it, because there are 4 programs that I would've installed the day I got the iPhone 3G. I'll just have to wait and keep a look out for updates and reviews of the mackdaddy of all phones. lol!
